PermitsPros is a California and nationwide permit expediting firm specializing in building permits and fire protection. Since 2008. One page for the two Fire-Lite searches that arrive together: the BG-12 pull station going on the plans, and the MS-Series panel it reports to.
The BG-12 family, from data sheets DF-52004 and DF-52013
Fire-Lite's BG-12 series is its manual pull station line — non-coded stations in single- and dual-action versions, with hex-lock and key-lock models. The conventional stations are covered by data sheet DF-52004; the addressable BG-12LX has its own sheet, DF-52013.
- BG-12S / BG-12SL — single-action; the -S uses pigtail connections with a hex lock, the -SL a key lock
- BG-12 — dual-action, SPST normally-open switch, screw terminals, hex lock; switch contacts rated 0.25 A at 30 VAC/VDC
- BG-12L — the BG-12 with a key lock
- BG-12LPS — dual-action with a pre-signal feature (the BG-12LSP variant adds FIRE/FUEGO bilingual labeling)
- BG-12LX — addressable dual-action station (DF-52013): an addressable interface inside the station reports its exact point to the panel; key reset; two rotary address switches; published maximum SLC standby current 375 µA and alarm current 5 mA (rev. D); the sheet sets its address range per panel — 1–159 on the MS-9600 series, 1–99 on the MS-9200UDLS, 1–50 on the MS-9050UD
- Also in the family: BG-12LA (auxiliary contacts), BG-12LOB/BG-12LO (outdoor listing)
The MS-Series panels, from their DF- data sheets
- MS-9600LS / MS-9600UDLS — data sheet DF-60334. Addressable, one SLC loop with up to 318 devices (159 detectors + 159 modules), expandable to a second loop with the SLC-2LS expander (636 devices fully loaded); four Style Y (Class B) or two Style Z (Class A) NAC circuits onboard, 7.0 A total system output. The MS-9600UDLS adds a factory-installed DACT-UD2 communicator; an IPDACT module is the optional internet path.
- MS-9200UDLS — the earlier addressable panel a generation of BG-12LX stations already reports to; the BG-12LX sheet addresses it at 1–99.
- MS-9050UD — data sheet DF-52418. Addressable, 50 devices of any type on a single SLC loop, with an integral DACT. (This is the sheet most often confused with DF-60334 — that one is the 9600.)
- MS-5UD-3 / MS-10UD-7 — data sheet DF-52416. Conventional five- and ten-zone panels, four NACs each, with built-in communicators.
- MS-25 — data sheet DF-60702. A 25-point addressable panel with built-in DACT, on a single SLC loop.
The California listing path
Fire-Lite equipment files in California under the State Fire Marshal's Building Materials Listing program. The BG-12 family's CSFM listing is 7150-0075:0184 (category 7150, manual stations), printed on the data sheets' own agency listings next to UL/ULC S711. The panel sheets print their CSFM numbers too — 7170-0075:217 on the current MS-9600LS/UDLS sheet (an older revision's appended listing page shows a differently formatted number, which is why the revision you cite matters) and 7165-0075:210 for the MS-9050UD. Every listing carries an expiry and is revised on the program's cycle, so the sheet in the package must be the current one; "Provide current CA SFM Listing" is a correction our desk has carried back from a California reviewer this year, in substance word for word.
What the submittal package needs for this family
- The panel's DF- data sheet for the exact model on the schedule, and DF-52004 / DF-52013 for the stations
- Current CSFM listing sheets — the BG-12 series sheet and the panel's, checked for currency at submittal date
- Battery calculations and NAC voltage-drop calculations — for panel work these are plan documents, not paperwork afterthoughts, and their absence is the fastest bounce in the category
- Device schedule consistency: the -LX suffix on the plans means the addressable station — the conventional sheet does not cover it, and vice versa (the same suffix discipline as the FSP-951 variants)
- For panel replacements: the existing panel's model and the approved prior drawings where they exist — compatibility between the new panel and the field devices is a reviewed question
The permit path
Pull stations and panels ride the project's fire alarm permit, reviewed by the fire prevention division or district. A panel replacement is plan-review work — the heaviest routine job in the alarm family — while adding or moving stations rides the same permit. Thresholds for minor work vary by jurisdiction. PermitsPros assembles the package, files it, carries corrections, and delivers the issued permit: $250 filing service or $495 complete package; city and district fees separate. Spec facts on this page are drawn from Fire-Lite's own published data sheets, cited by DF- document number and revision. Two data-sheet numbers in circulation for this family are easy to cross: DF-60334 is the MS-9600LS sheet and DF-52418 is the MS-9050UD sheet — they are different panels, and the sheets are not interchangeable. Where a data-sheet revision changes a printed listing number, this page says so.
Questions and answers
Q: What is the difference between the BG-12 models?
A: From Fire-Lite data sheets DF-52004 (conventional) and DF-52013 (addressable): the single-action stations are the BG-12S (pigtail connections, hex lock) and BG-12SL (key lock). The BG-12 is dual-action; the BG-12L is the BG-12 with a key lock; the BG-12LPS is the dual-action station with a pre-signal feature; and the BG-12LX is the addressable dual-action station — it carries an addressable interface inside, reports its exact point to the panel, and is key-reset. The suffix is not decoration: an addressable -LX and a conventional station are different devices on the plans and in the listing.
Q: What data sheets cover the Fire-Lite MS-Series panels?
A: Fire-Lite publishes them by DF- number: MS-9600LS / MS-9600UDLS is DF-60334; MS-9050UD is DF-52418; the conventional MS-5UD-3 and MS-10UD-7 share DF-52416; the MS-25 is DF-60702. A submittal cites the sheet for the panel actually on the device schedule — DF-60334 and DF-52418 are routinely confused, and they describe different panels.
Q: How many devices do the MS-Series addressable panels support?
A: Per the data sheets: the MS-9600LS runs one SLC loop with up to 318 addressable devices — 159 detectors plus 159 modules — and an optional SLC-2LS expander adds a second loop, for up to 636 devices fully loaded. The MS-9050UD supports up to 50 addressable devices of any type on its single loop. Those capacities are what the loop and device-count sections of a submittal are checked against.
Q: What listing evidence does an MS-Series panel submittal need in California?
A: The panel's data sheet (its DF- number), the current California State Fire Marshal Building Materials Listing sheet for the exact panel model — the numbers printed on the current data-sheet revisions include CSFM 7170-0075:217 for the MS-9600LS/UDLS and 7165-0075:210 for the MS-9050UD — and the calculations: standby battery calculations and NAC voltage-drop calculations sized to the loads on the panel's data sheet. Where monitoring is in scope, the communicator's paperwork rides the same package: the MS-9600UDLS ships with a factory-installed DACT-UD2, and the MS-9050UD carries an integral DACT.
Q: What is the BG-12's California listing?
A: CSFM 7150-0075:0184, category 7150 (manual stations) — printed in the agency listings on the data sheets themselves (DF-52004 and DF-52013), alongside UL/ULC listing S711 and UL 38 compliance. Listings are revised and expire, so the sheet pulled for a submittal is checked for currency at filing time — the current sheet is the one reviewers accept.
